Volume XVIII of the Third Series of the Published Pennsylvania Archives contain the following Berks County tax lists: Proprietary Return for 1767 and 1768; Register of Property for 1779; Return of Assessment for 1780, 1781, and 1784; and the Assessment of Taxes for 1785. Taxpayers are listed by township and as in the cases of the Returns, the acres owed, horses, and cattle are itemized. For Pennsylvania genealogy researchers of the present day counties of Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Snyder, and Union the early tax lists of Berks County, Pennsylvania may prove useful in finding early pioneer ancestors. A section of Schuylkill County was also a part of Berks County during this time period and sections of the following counties: Montour, Columbia, Northumberland, Union, Lycoming, Snyder, Clinton and Centre were also a part of Berks County until 1772.
