The Juniata Valley was formed by the Juniata River that flows primarily around and through the Pennsylvania counties of Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata and Perry. The History of the Juniata Valley and its People, Volumes I, II and III by John Jordan was published in 1913. This three-volume set offers a concise history of the people and places of the valley from the late 1700s to the early 1900s. Chapters are included on the history of Huntingdon County, Mifflin County, Juniata County and Perry County and their townships. These histories include lists of many of the elected county officials since the inception of the counties, the first settlers and land owners, the first schools and churches, and much more. Other chapters include histories on the valley’s industries, education, charities, and military history. The History of the Juniata Valley also contains extensive family histories of residents and early settlers of South Central Pennsylvania. The family histories typically chronicle several generates of one family. Although the genealogical memoirs focus on the residents and ancestors from the counties of Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata and Perry, there are several sketches of residents from the surrounding counties.
